Daily Affirmation
The new boy and I are very different people. He can’t lie without turning red and getting all sweaty. Lying is like second nature for me. In grade school when he heard another kid got in trouble for having garbage pail cards, he turned himself in. TURNED HIMSELF IN?! In grade school I was sent home with a green slip for hitting a classmate with a branch. He’s a planner and I’m not. At night, I toss my clothes in a heap next to the bed. He folds his and neatly stacks his on the floor next to his shoes. Do I need to go on? I think not.
One of those glaring differences was brought to my attention this weekend when he told me, among other things, he gives himself an affirmation every morning. Something that I found laughable at first, but after a little reflection I came to the realization that maybe I should be picking up on some of these habits. He’s successful at what he does, driven and such a hard worker. Maybe there was something to it? So the other night before we fell asleep I asked if I could get an affirmation in the morning. This was the text I received on the way to work yesterday:
My success is contagious, other people like it, seek it, and respect it.
It may be something you all laugh at as well, but I don’t think it will hurt to try and look at things from a slightly different (read type A personality) perspective. Or at least I’ll try not to laugh in his face the next time he tells me something that I find utterly strange.
